Application of UV-C Light in Air Conditioning Systems

Currently the most widespread application is the UV-C light for germicidal purposes, specifically in the cooling coils and ducts, that is, it is used to keep them clean, free of algae or fungi, this helps to maintain its thermal efficiency and avoids the use of germicides in the condensate trays. 

 

Another use perhaps less known but very important is the elimination of the biological load of the air, this means that the ultraviolet irradiation is able to eliminate the microorganisms that are airborne.

UV-C CABINET

The operation of UV-C as a method of disinfection is very simple; at a certain wavelength, the photons that make up the ultraviolet light are able to penetrate matter and very particularly decompose organic elements and cause mutations or 'deactivate' microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungal spores.

 

The kind of light used as a germicidal type is UV-C, the wavelength at which the light works is between 220 and 300 nanometers, its peak effectiveness is at 254 nm.

 

Developed with high quality materials and incredibly powerful, it leaves no hazardous residues and does not leach chemicals.

Germicidal lamps for surfaces and air conditioning​

Ultraviolet light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum with a certain wavelength. There are several sub-classes, such as UV-A (ultraviolet type A), UV-B, and UV-C. The type of light used as a germicide is UVC, which has a wavelength between 220 and 300 nm and is most effective at 254 nm. The fundamentals of using UV radiation as a purification method are very simple: at a certain wavelength, the photons that make up ultraviolet light are capable of penetrating matter and, more specifically, breaking down organic elements and causing mutations or “deactivating” microorganisms such as bacteria and fungal spores.

Portable emitters irradiate up to 1260 µW per second per square centimeter. An exposure of ~20 seconds at a distance of 20 centimeters is sufficient to deactivate most viruses, fungi, and bacteria.
